One More Chance

Oh, that I had
But one more chance
To brave the world

With star-eyed wonder

To feel the breadth of time
Skipping lazily
Loitering about

To hear the waves rush in
Again and again
Lost in time

Weary from play
Deep in thought
Of daffodils and nursery rhymes

Oh, that I had
But one more chance
To brave the world

With reckless abandon

An invincible spirit
Untarnished and innocent
Carefree and smiling

Never ceasing
To question everything
Trusting everyone

Anticipating
Only the best
That life can give

Oh, that I had
But one more chance
To brave the world

With wisdom and awe

Making peace with God
And roads not traveled
Love lost and sagging skin

Remembering my youth
Telling the stories
Again and again

Savoring time left
Knowing that I won’t
Get that chance
