How to Have the Best New Year Ever!
A new year brings with it some time for reflection.
We reflect on the past year, and then maybe on all our past years….the ups, the downs, the good choices, the not-so-good choices….and we may even resolve to make some changes.
It’s a chance to start over; a new beginning.
And it’s a chance to put life in perspective. What’s really important? What’s not? What am I doing that I should do more of? Or less of? Am I putting my time and efforts into the people and things that are most important?
If you are like me, you may spend a little time thinking about these things today.
So, I want to encourage you. If you’ve made some mistakes, don’t dwell on them and don’t beat yourself up over them. We’ve all made mistakes. We’ve all said things and done things that we wish we could take back or do over or not do at all. I know I have.
But each one of us must make a choice every day. We must choose whether to live in freedom or in bondage. Free from the regret and guilt of our past mistakes or in bondage to them… replaying them over and over in our minds and constantly telling ourselves that we messed up and our lives would be so much better if we hadn’t ________ (you fill in the blank).
So how do we obtain this freedom? Is it hard to get you ask?
Absolutely not! The good news is that it is available to each and every one of us.
All you have to do is have a change of heart and a change of mind.
How? By calling upon the One that has the power to change your heart and renew your mind. The One that created you.
Now, you may be thinking …..Oh, I get it, this is just another attempt by some Christian that thinks they have all the answers to convert me. Can’t they ever take a day off?
Let me assure you, I don’t have all the answers.
But He does and He never takes a day off from pursuing you. Why?
Because He loves you. And He wants the best for you. And He wants you to have the best life on this earth that you can have. But more importantly, He wants you to have an eternal life that you cannot get any other way.
By accepting Jesus as your savior, you get all of that and more. You get to tap into His strength. You get to finally stop buying every new self-help book out there and let the one that created you help you. After all, don’t you think He knows what you need?
What happens if you decide to accept this gift?
First, you are made righteous, or right with God which may give you a peace that you haven’t ever felt.
Second, your eternal address is changed. When you pass from this life, you will get to live forever with God in heaven. It does not matter what you have ever done, this is God’s gift of grace offered to every person that believes in his son Jesus as their savior.
And God tells us that he “remembers our sins no more” and that he removes them from his memory “as far as the east is from the west”.
And as you grow in a relationship with Him, he gives you the wisdom to live your life on earth now with fullness and abundance. Blessings of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control become more evident in your life as you walk with Him.
Does that mean everything in your life from now on will be perfect?
Does that mean you’ll never have any more problems, or sickness or struggles?
But it does mean is that God will be with you when you do walk through the hard times. He’ll guide you and He’ll help you. You’ll have His peace and His strength when you feel weak. Because when we are weak, He is strong.
And oh, how sweet that is. How wonderful it can be! I’ve experienced it and I know.
And when you understand how much he loves you and I mean really understand this…..and that you don’t have to work your way into His favor or clean yourself up first before you accept this gift…..and you realize that none of this is based on your performance, not now and not ever ~ there is FREEDOM!
And the regrets and guilt begin to fade away…..and are replaced by PEACE.
Do you want Peace and Freedom in 2014 my friends?
If so, just call on His name.
Accept His gift.
It’s free and it’s yours for the taking.
And I promise…..you’ll have the best year of your life!
